The kindred is headed by a gythia, whose job it is to plan and coordinate kindred activities (blots, meetings, etc.), answer email inquiries, maintain a web presence for the group, and otherwise act as the group’s official spokesperson to the outside world.  Within the kindred itself, however, decisions are made by consensus and, failing that, by majority vote.  In the case of a tied vote, the gythia casts the deciding vote.

All members (including distance members) meet for a business meeting once a month, on a day and time to be determined.  This meeting may be held via phone, email, or even our Livejournal community.  Plans for upcoming holidays and other rituals are discussed at the business meeting. (In practice, this often happens a lot more informally, but it's always good to have the formal rule to fall back on, just in case!)

Rituals are held for the major Heathen holidays and any other days (including the multi-trad ones) the kindred decides to celebrate together.  Not everyone is required to participate in all multi-trad rituals, although participation in some manner(even if limited to a simple prayer or libation) is encouraged. All members make an effort to be present for Heathen holiday rituals.  Distance members, if they cannot be present, participate online, or by phone conference, or do the ritual on their own at the same time and check in afterwards.  (Script/ritual plans and/or blueprints are sent out to all members prior to the ritual.)

We also have a seasonal book club in which we select (by consensus) one Heathen-related text (whether fiction or non-, primary source material or a contemporary work) to be read and discussed as a group.

Healing rites (Reiki, etc.) and other magic-oriented rituals are scheduled apart from the holidays and done as a group, with distance members participating on their own at the same time.

Upcoming kindred projects include planning for a multi-Recon, woo-friendly moot to be sponsored and organized by the kindred and friends, and held in the Mid-Atlantic region on an annual basis.

Other possible future activities include seidhr study, lore nights (not necessarily limited to just Heathen lore), workshops that bring in guest speakers/teachers, nature walks, campouts, etc.  Other goals, projects, events and so forth are open to discussion by members.  Obviously, distance members miss some local events, but an effort is made to keep them up-to-date and involved.

Kindred meetings take place in person at all moots, gatherings, and other events where there are at least two kindred members present.  Sumbel at these events for kindred members and friends of the kindred happens when possible.

No specific oaths to the kindred itself are needed or asked, but each member and potential member should affirm that they are willing to:

  1. Identify themselves publicly as a member, regardless of their other affiliations. (Except in cases where such identification would cause problems with employment, housing, etc.)
  2. Uphold and strive to further the stated kindred ideals and values (anti-racism, ecology, etc.)
  3. Regard other members as family, and keep frith with them accordingly.  This may, in extreme cases, mean defending them against the ill speech or actions of others, and at minimum means refraining from attacking or belittling other members.  All members should be able to count all other members as friends and allies.
  4. Show honor and respect to the kindred’s patrons (Odin and Gunnlod), as well as all the other Gods with Whom the kindred or any of its members have a special relationship, whether or not They are your personal patrons.
